Karoliina Raattamaa's story about Juhani Raattamaa's last moments

Haaparannanlehti 21.3.1899

About the last moments of Juhani Raattamaa writes the deceased's beloved spouse as follows:

I hereby give you a brother in the Lord Jesus, thus knowing from the departure of my husband Juhani Raattamaa out of the world that he had no particular pain, but his strength diminished, and he was sane through the very last time; over a week he was in bed mostly sleeping and almost on his own got up on when I was helping a little. I asked on the last night where you have the pain to which he replied: I have no pain anywhere, I just have a good time. On the last hour, I read him letters from Christians and asked if he would hear, then said he would. And when I had spoken unto him of the greetings of the Christians, he responded: should LORD bless them all; and so, he slept like a sweet sleep. Now he is crowned with the crown of righteousness, for he has fought for good wrestling, kept faith, and finished his run, even having left us a good example of being vigorous to pray to God in solitude, asking forgiveness and forgiving to the last; but now he has been allowed to leave his wand on the brink of the grave and, by the great grace of God, to enter into a paradise where the corruption of sin no longer strains as here. He has been able to greet with perfect love by all his late brothers and sisters, both his teachers and followers, which he has often longed for here, and there is no need to shed tears of sorrow and longing there. In that faith and hope we are in many weaknesses and deficiencies, but in the grace of the forgiving of sins we believe in the one we face, together with all the most chosen. - Many have become Christians here in the villages of Kuttanen, Palojoki, etc. With greetings of love with your family, I ask you to remember in your prayers with a forgiving heart.
Karoliina Raattamaa.

So blessed has the servant of the Lord left, and died in the death of the righteous: and let the Father of his grace grant it even unto us. Thank and honor God alone! A [atu] L [aitinen].
